Silverstone could host multiple Formula 1 grands prix this season, with circuit CEO Stuart Pringle revealing he has offered to replace cancelled Middle Eastern events should the need arise.

The F1 calendar remains in flux this season, with the war in Iran already resulting in the cancellation of races in both Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, leaving a five-week break between the Japanese Grand Prix, and this weekend’s Miami event.

While the championship is not scheduled to return to the region until the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in late September, question marks remain around not just that weekend, but also races in Qatar and Abu Dhabi – the pair slated to round out the season.

During the COVID pandemic, F1 was forced to get creative with its planning, due to the reduced timeframe in which to run a season, and also the travel and testing restrictions put in place globally.

During that time, Silverstone was one of three venues that hosted two grands prix, alongside Austria and Bahrain.

“I have offered, because we stepped in during COVID and we were able to help Formula 1, and if that would help again, then of course, we will,” Pringle told Sky Sports.

“But there are numerous practicalities that need to be considered. The offer is in, they know we’re here, and we can move fast.”

Even with a traditionally packed calendar for the circuit, Pringle believes Silverstone would rise to the challenge, should F1 take up the offer.

He added: “I pride myself on not having spare windows, but everything is movable in a crisis.”

But from a championship point of view, F1 will not be rushed into any decisions so far ahead of time, with the ongoing conflict taking turns nearly every day.

“Everyone can just look at the TV and see the news every day that the situation is so fluid and so dynamic, and nobody knows what is going to happen tomorrow, let alone in September and October,” said F1 chief communications officer, Liam Parker.

“We have a long period of time until our events that we need to go back to the Middle East region.”

Crash.net understands that Pringle’s comments came in response to a hypothetical question, and it is highly unlikely that this offer will be taken up.
