Alex Albon, Carlos Sainz and James Vowles will enter the Marvel Universe, with the Formula 1 stars doing battle with an upcoming cinematic Avengers foe.

F1 is no stranger to a crossover with Marvel, with Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly previously promoting Deadpool and Wolverine with special helmets,m suits and an Alpine livery, while Ocon had previously shown his love of the comic and cinematic series by donning a Spiderman-inspired lid.

With this new linkup, however, Williams has taken things a step further, with both drivers and team principal Vowles being immortalised in the pages of a special edition comic book, which will be available with event-specific covers, starting at the Monaco Grand Prix.

While further ‘special edition variants’ will be available at the British, Madrid, Singapore, United States, and Las Vegas Grands Prix, those interested in this unique piece of F1 memorabilia can pre-order at the Williams fan zone in Miami. The full comic is slated for an October release in the US.

Alex and Carlos are already heroes to our millions of fans, and now they get to prove it in print by uniting with the Marvel Super Heroes to save racing from Doctor Doom,” said Luke Timmins, Williams director of merchandise and licensing.

“We are proud to be bringing these two universes together for the first time, and hope it gives fans another way to find and fall in love with our iconic Atlassian Williams F1 Team. There is no better place than Miami to launch a unique collaboration like this, and with special edition covers for races around the world the story is only just beginning.”

While details on the plot are thin, Albon, Sainz and Vowles are set to “take on their biggest challenge yet”, by doing battle with Doctor Doom in the midst of the F1 season.

Naturally, a wider superhero team is required to get the job done, so Iron Man, Black Widow, and Captain America, among others, will all join the cause.

It is unlikely that this will be the end of this crossover, but maybe Tony Stark will have a few ideas that Williams could incorporate into the FW48.
